Reedley College football player has more to prove

REEDLEY, Calif. (FOX26) — College football programs around the country are going through spring practice right about now.

FOX26 sports reporter Vanessa Romo has the story of a football player at Reedley College who will have a big decision to make after getting a lot of attention from several schools.

It's safe to say Shemar Kirk makes the most out of every opportunity when playing for Reedley College.

"When I'm on the field I'm locked in. I'm not worried about too much," said Kirk. "I think God blessed me. I'm good at it."

The wide receiver racked up nearly 800 yards, 97 per game, and 8 touchdowns in his sophomore season.

"I've been telling a lot of colleges about Shemar for 2 years now," said head football coach Rob Hartenfels.

Kirk was raised in Tennesee and moved to Reedley to pursue his only opportunity to play football at the next level.

He says he graduated high school in 2019 but took 2 years off after he didn't receive any offers.

As a true freshman, Kirk helped the Tigers beat Fresno City with 3 touchdowns.

Coach Hartenfels says he knew this guy was special which is why he pursued him in Nashville.

The wideout says he became more intentional, physical, and smarter — taking him from zero offers to 8, including Texas A&M, UNLV, and Jackson State.

Kirk will announce where he will play next in May.
