In the wake of the one-year anniversary of the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas that killed 22 people at an elementary school. Local schools around Shasta County have taken their safety precautions to the next level.
Many schools and Universities incorporate a crisis response plan and over the years have expanded that to include law enforcement and to improve communication and overall safety of the students.
Simpson University’s Chief operating officer, Walter Quirk, told KRCR they even added more precautions in the case of an active shooter on campus. “Over the last six months, we overhauled and put in the second version of software in our crisis response notification system that works on cell phones for all the students, faculty, and staff.”
Quirk added, “Here at Simpson University every semester we run a lockdown drill that is campus-wide and we do that for every emergency situation.”

Simpson University also holds active shooter training on campus every year, teaming up with paramedics and the Redding Police Department to prepare for a shooter on campus.
