Redding Public Works Street Supervisor, Carl Buchanan told KRCR that these storms significantly impact the road work in town. “The weather impacts roadway repairs of course because we have to use what's called a cold mix during the rainy season because we can't get a hot mix this time of year to make a permanent patch on the road so it affects how we can do the permanent patch.” Buchanan continued, “it affects how we can do our sidewalk repairs because you can't pour cement when it's raining so weather affects us a lot when it comes to priority like our roads and sidewalks.”
Public Works advises people to call in and report any hazards seen on the roadways and says they do their best to respond to everyone's concerns.
Buchanan said they are more backed up than usual as we head into spring because certain materials cannot be used in the rain.
Our main issue now is the roadways which are being tackled through a capital project and we also do an in-house servicing here within our department and so our highest priority right now is of course the condition of the roads.
Buchanan added, “of course Placer street and Bechelli lane that's impacted those projects quite a bit and delayed those, so I know the weather that we've had we just got to have a little patience so we can get those things wrapped up”
The California Office of Emergency services says you should know whether your home is in a flood zone and to evacuate immediately if advised to do so. Overall, staying patient and prepared during this long winter will help ensure your safety.
