New Mexico Delegation Addresses Shootout In Red River

New Mexico Delegation News:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) and U.S. Representatives Teresa Leger Fernández (D-N.M.), Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.), and Gabe Vasquez (D-N.M.) issued the following statement in response to shootings Saturday in Red River:

“We are heartsick over the shootings yesterday in Red River, New Mexico. Our thoughts are with those injured and the families of those we have lost. We are immensely grateful for the quick action by law enforcement officers and the heroic work of first responders and health care providers.

“Yesterday’s shootings desecrated a decades-old, cherished community gathering. We are painfully aware that these shootings also came less than two weeks after the mass shooting in Farmington. We cannot let these events become normal. We must do more to prevent gun violence.”

Editor’s note: The latest news reports indicate that three people are dead and five others injured in the shooting Saturday in Red River in Taos County, during the annual motorcycle rally that takes place Memorial Day weekend. The shooting appears to be gang related and those involved are in police custody.
