There’s a place in Michigan where time slows down, where the aroma of home-cooked meals wafts through the air, and where chicken isn’t just served – it’s celebrated. Zehnder’s of Frankenmuth stands as a culinary landmark in the heart of Michigan’s Little Bavaria, offering a dining experience that feels like a warm embrace from your favorite grandmother – if your grandmother happened to be a world-class chef with a penchant for poultry perfection.

Cask & Co.: Jack of all trades, master of most
I’m surprised that before this assignment, I had never been to Cask & Co. Not only is the restaurant extremely close to my house, but there are bowls on the menu. Bowls have become a trendy menu item. In my experience, they’re essentially a one-stop shop kind of meal, containing some type of grain (which can usually be swapped out for greens because the target audience is women who were personally victimized by Atkins, like myself) as well as different veggies, a protein and usually a fun sauce or some other bonus like crunchy breadcrumbs or gremolata.

This Charming Bakery In Michigan Has Been Whipping Up The Best Donuts Since 1913
Standing on a dark Jackson street corner at 5:00 AM might feel like the start of a noir film, but the plot twist is much sweeter. I watched the golden, buttery light spill out from the windows, a warm beacon against the biting Michigan morning. There is a sacred, hushed electricity in that pre-dawn air as the queue begins to snake down the sidewalk.

'I'm not a circus clown': Michael Wallace keeps the show rolling from inside the barrel
For most of the crowd, he is simply the man in the barrel. When a bull turns and a rider hits the dirt, attention shifts to the brightly dressed figure positioned at the center of the arena inside an aluminum drum. The barrel tips and rolls across the dirt before settling upright again. For Michael Wallace, that moment is not the whole job. It is only one part of it. Wallace, a professional rodeo clown from Illinois, spent the weekend performing at the 56th annual Spartan Stampede, hosted by the MSU Rodeo Club at the Michigan State University Livestock Pavilion. All four performances sold out, drawing roughly 10,000 spectators to the IPRA's No. 1 ranked indoor rodeo in the country. "I'm not a circus clown," Wallace said. The title "rodeo clown" carries assumptions. He does not wear a traditional clown outfit. He does not follow a written routine. Once the show begins, he builds it in real time, adjusting to the rhythm of the arena. The barrel he climbs into during bull riding is built of reinforced aluminum, it includes handles and an internal platform that allows him to brace himself when a bull makes contact. It is equipment, not a
