JACKSON, Ohio — The Jackson Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday evening around 6 PM. According to authorities, a 2009 Ford Focus driven by 43-year-old Brian D. Landers, of Portsmouth, was traveling south on Route 139 when he allegedly failed to yield at the intersection of Route 32. Landers, troopers say, was then struck by James R. Whitney, 49, of Albany, driving his 2019 Jeep Cherokee.

Ross Co. grand jury hands down indictments
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – The Ross County Grand Jury has indicted two individuals on several charges, including grand theft and receiving stolen property. Chad A. Benarth, 44, of Chillicothe, faces charges of grand theft, breaking and entering, and receiving stolen property.The charges stem from incidents alleged to have occurred on April 12 and April 19, 2024. Benarth faces a potential prison sentence of up to 18 months on the fourth-degree felony charge and up to 12 months on each fifth-degree felony charge.

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – Ross County Sheriff’s Office has released new details on the attempted abduction of a 14-year-old girl that occurred on the morning of May 7th. The teen, whose name is withheld due to her age, was walking to her school bus stop when she encountered a suspicious vehicle.
Tanker truck overturned on US 23
A semi-tractor trailer tanker truck was traveling southbound, in Piketon, when the vehicle left the roadway, struck an embankment, overturned and took out a large sign, according to the Dispatch Supervisor Saunders of the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSP). “It was a tanker truck hauling molten sulfur,” said Trooper Moore of the Portsmouth Post of the OSP who investigated the accident.
