Donation of a fire suppression device will help first responders act quickly
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - In a small town like Box Elder, often it’s the police, not the fire department, that arrives to a blaze first. “Generally when law enforcement arrives their main concern is to get people out of the structure because they’re not firefighters so this gives them a tool to assist the fire department in allowing to keep that fire possibly suppressed,” said Derek Wingfield, public information officer for the City of Box Elder.
Prescribed burn scheduled in Custer State Park
RAPID CITY, S.D. - South Dakota Wildland Fire, in coordination with Custer State Park, is planning a prescribed burn on Wednesday, April 24, in the northwestern quarter of the park. The burn area, located approximately 2 miles north of the Park Visitor Center, is not accessible via paved roads. Mop-up and monitoring will continue in the following days. If weather conditions are unfavorable on Wednesday, the burn will be rescheduled.
