RANGER, Georgia (WDEF) – A north Georgia town could cease to exist if a bill is approved in the Georgia legislature.

Ranger is a small town of about 140 people on the eastern end of Gordon County on Highway 411.

But state Representative Matt Barton has filed a bill that would strip them of their town-hood status.

He says he did it based on complaints from residents.

Rep. Barton says a citizen complained to him that they couldn’t find any town officials to give him a business license or clean up mug from logging trucks on their streets.

The lawmaker says he has called the town’s number and even tried to hunt down a City Hall, but had no luck.

The Rome News-Tribune also tried to verify any sign of governance.

They found the town’s phone number has been disconnected and their “office” no longer has any signs on it.

The Georgia Municipal Association lists these town officials:  Mayor Chad Stamey, and council members James Haynes, Beatrice Nix, Jewell Thacker, as well as City Attorney Terry Miller and City Clerk Sonja May.

There is a city election scheduled for this upcoming November.
