Popular homeless work program on Denver budget chopping block
A program popular with people experiencing homelessness in Denver may continue another two years if the City Council makes a budget amendment. City Council member Shontel Lewis proposes taking $240,000 each from the supplies budgets of the department of Finance and the department of Housing Stability as well as $38,354 for graffiti removal and $11,646 from Keep Denver Beautiful. Those jobs could in theory be picked up by the Denver Day works program. A total $530,000 would allow the city to issue a request for proposals, or RFP, for a two-year contract to continue operating the program, according to Lewis’ proposal.

What to Do During Denver Arts Week 2026
For 10 days, Denver puts its creative side front and center. Here are three ways to get in on the art, after-hours access, and neighborhood fun. As the sun dips, Santa Fe Drive becomes one of Denver’s best places to spend a Friday night. On Nov. 6, galleries throw open their doors, and the neighborhood takes on a block-party energy, drawing serious collectors and casual wanderers alike. First Friday offers a free look at work from more than 100 artists across some 30 galleries, studios, and neighborhood spots. Duck into a gallery you’ve never visited, discover an artist you’ve never heard of, then follow the crowd down the street. There’s no prescribed route or agenda. The fun is seeing where the night takes you.

Denver Schools Add Four Gifted Magnet Sites in First Expansion in Over a Decade
Denver Public Schools is adding four gifted and talented magnet programs in 2026, an expansion district officials describe as the first addition of its kind within the district in more than a decade. The new sites are Beach Court Elementary, Carson Elementary, Florida Pitt Waller ECE-8 and Isabella Bird Community School, and they come as the district leans on newer assessment tools meant to catch gifted students who have been historically overlooked, particularly multilingual learners.
