RALEIGH — Two Argentinians are among the biggest movers during Friday morning rounds of the UNC Health Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour.
Starting the day. Nelson Ledesma and Jorge Fernandez- Valdes were both outside the top 10 with Ledesma sitting right around the projected cut line (even par).
Friday morning at the Raleigh Country Club has been a hot start for the two Argentinians who combined have moved up the leaderboard 47 spots entering their respective back nines.
Ledesma rattled off a string of five birdies to start his front nine playing on the tougher 10-18 hole stretch before dropping one shot on his ninth hole of the day.
Fernandez-Valdes outdid his fellow countryman on his front nine play, firing a -5 under score of 30 including an eagle alongside his three birdies.
Fernandez-Valdes almost fumbled the impressive front nine score on the ninth hole when he attempted to drive the green and missed far right in the adjacent 10th fairway. After missing two wedges short, Fernandez-Valdes holed a long-breaking par putt to save his par.
Two other players in the morning groups making big moves are Jacob Bridgeman and Jake Knapp.
Bridgeman, who was inside the top 10 to start the second round, has added to his impressive start on Friday. Nearing the end of his round, the Greenville, South Carolina, native has found himself the solo leader after the -3 round heading down the final stretch.
Knapp has the low round of the day, currently -6 for the round, vaulting him from around the cutline 46 spot into a tie for seventh heading into the 18th hole.
As the morning rounds finish, the afternoon waves are preparing to head out with Matt McCarty and Kyle Westmoreland, the day one leaders, off in the 12 o’clock hour.
