WHAT’S UP TODAY

First up this morning in your Miami Hurricanes news?

Well, of course we had your full coverage of the NCAA regionals in Albany, with recaps and reaction off Miami’s wins against Kent State and Indiana to advance to the Sweet 16. There were columns by Gary Ferman live from the site along with one on one video interviews, a fan Q&A and photo galleries. So you can check that all out.

Plus we had your recap and reaction of the women’s team surging in the second half to overcome a 17-point deficit and advance to face top-seeded Indiana today.

In football we break down your key offensive and defensive veterans that need to step up now … with spring practice slated to kick off again tomorrow.

There’s also plenty of recruiting news.

Miami is continuing its push for Bowie (Md.) St. Frances Academy 2024 4-star quarterback Michael Van Buren, an On300 prospect and the On3 Industry Ranking’s No. 12 quarterback prospect in this year’s recruiting cycle. So check out his thoughts on the Canes.

And with April 8 shaping up to be a busy recruiting day for the Miami Hurricanes, you can now add 2024 Melissa (Tex.) DL to the list. He talks about his interest in the Canes.

We also talk with Portal (Ga.) four-star athlete Amir Jackson, who has landed a Miami offer. And Tucson (Ariz.) Salpointe Catholic 2024 5-star EDGE Elijah Rushing may be favored to land at Oregon, but the No. 15 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking is still open to Miami. He updates that.

Miami’s coaching staff also is pushing hard to get Mooresville (N.C.) Lake Norman 4-star 2024 offensive tackle Ethan Calloway to Coral Gables for a spring visit, and he’s continuing to hold interest in the Hurricanes. Also continuing to have interest is Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Dylan Raiola, the No. 1 quarterback in the 2024 recruiting class. His father shares the situation with Dylan.

And after Mario Cristobal paid a visit to Lancaster (Texas) safety Corian Gipson, the S felt a genuine connection with the Miami head coach. Now he’ll visit for the Spring Game and shares his take.

Also there’s this: Rockledge (Fla.) Jaylen Heyward may have committed to Georgia in January, but that hasn’t dissuaded Miami from trying to recruit the top-50 2024 prospect. We have an update with Heyward. We also have a story with Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei four-star offensive tackle Brandon Baker. His Miami junior day visit went so well he’s already eyeing a return trip. So read about that.

And Boynton Beach (Fla.) Somerset Canyon 2026 athlete Denairius Gray landed a Miami offer and is building a bond with Kevin Beard. Check that out, too.

Then there also was the baseball weekend series sweep vs. Virginia Tech with the recaps and reaction.

And, as always, stay tuned today for any news that may come up.

MESSAGE BOARD POST OF THE DAY

Speed Kills … Posted by sabrose

We took apart Indiana by spreading the floor and using our speed advantage. We made it difficult for their 5 to get the ball and shoot close to the basket. Wong and Miller played much better. Indiana had a lot of talent and we wont face a better 5 than tonight. Houston will be a real tough out but I know we will play them tough. Great season whatever happens. Larranaga is a magician.

MIAMI HURRICANES QUOTE OF THE DAY

“The team was not happy with the way they played Friday. I thought tonight the way we defended and kept them from scoring early gave our guys a lot of confidence because we were up 10 in the first five minutes. Then we just kept it going.”

Miami basketball coach Jim Larranaga, after his team beat Indiana to reach the Sweet 16 on Sunday night
