RAHWAY – The cause of a fire that damaged a vacant 2-story home on Pierce Street is under investigation.

Around 11 p.m. on April 16, city police and firefighters responded to a fire at a wooden house. Upon arrival, responders reported fire at the rear inside and outside the home, Rahway chief communications officer Rachel Smith said.

The home was unoccupied and no injuries were reported, Smith said.

The fire was put out within 20 minutes by firefighters from Rahway, Linden and Roselle who helped fight the blaze, Smith said.

The fire damaged the rear wall and reached both floors and parts of the attic.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, Smith said.
