Heath football rallies past Fairfield Union in Division IV
LANCASTER - Time was running out on the Heath football team’s senior class on Oct. 30. The Bulldogs were knocked down, but they certainly were not out. Heath erupted in the second half, rallying from a 15-0 deficit to escape with a 22-21 victory at Fairfield Union in a Division IV, Region 15 first-round game. The Bulldogs avenged a 22-3 loss in the first round a year ago. "It's awesome," said senior Camden Stephens’ whose 3-yard touchdown halfback pass to classmate Joe Ward got the Bulldogs on the scoreboard in the third quarter. "We knew we didn't get the outcome we wanted last year, and we were just out for revenge." No. 10 Heath (8-3) visits No. 2 New Lexington (9-1) at 7 p.m. Nov. 6. "We definitely played more together as a team, and we changed a few things on defense (in the second half)," Stephens said. "That touchdown pass I threw, we practice that all of the time. It all came together." Following a 41-yard field goal by senior Camden Montgomery to cut the deficit to 15-10, classmate Tristyn Jones scored on a 21-yard TD run, giving the Bulldogs their first lead at 16-15 with 10:59 left. Adena rallies past Westfall to win program's 40th district crown
WAVERLY — Before the start of the fifth set in a Division V district championship match on Saturday, Oct. 31, Adena coach Laura Smith pulled senior libero Kimmy Dalton aside and delivered a message. “I talked to Kimmy and told her that she had to be a leader out there,” Smith said. “I told her that the other girls were looking at her.” Dalton, who has earned Scioto Valley Conference and Division V District 14 Player of the Year honors this fall, took Smith’s words to heart. She spearheaded a stingy defensive effort while rallying her teammates in the decisive fifth set, pacing her Warriors (15-10) to a thrilling 15-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-17, 15-12 victory over Westfall. The victory marked the program’s 40th district championship. “We’ve been able to get the kids to work hard and believe in what we’re doing,” Smith said. “It’s important to be skilled, but you also have to be a team. You have to learn to love each other. You don’t have to like each other. But you do have to love each other. I think we work hard on getting kids closer, so that they’ll want to work for each other. That’s been a
