QUINCY − A vehicle crashed into a day care at 101 Adams St. on Tuesday, police said. No one was hurt.

The driver was dropping off her child at the day care shortly before 8:30 a.m. when the accident occurred, Quincy police Capt. Daniel Guarente said.

She apparently was parking her car and not traveling at a high rate of speed, he said. She was not charged or cited, he said.

The day care, Happy Children Learning Center, could not be reached for comment. It was unclear how many children were there when the crash occurred.

Everyone in the building was safely evacuated.

Rick Doane, executive director of Interfaith Social Services, which has mental health counseling offices on the second floor, said no one from his staff was in the building at the time.

He said there initially was some doubt about whether the organization's food pantry next door would remain open, but service wasn't disrupted.

"Luckily, everything was fine," he said. "We were able to serve everybody."

He said Quincy police and firefighters "did an amazing job" handling the crash. Pantry clients' cars are often wrapped around the block, he said.

The building's owner, Alex Ricciardi, said the crash didn't affect other tenants in the building. He said the damage was limited to two rooms downstairs where the day care operates.

"The building itself is OK" and not structurally compromised, he said.

"The good news is no one was hurt," he said.
