QUINCY, MASS. (WHDH) - Flames tore through an apartment building in Quincy Friday, drawing an emergency response to the scene on Willard Street and sending residents scrambling to safety. More than 50 people were forced out.
SKY7-HD was over the area, where flames and black smoke could be seen billowing from the building’s roof around 2 p.m.
Building residents told 7NEWS the fire started in a fourth floor unit.
Two firefighters were seen being taken away on stretchers during the fire response, one of whom was wearing an oxygen mask.
While building residents said at least one person who lives in the building was placed in an ambulance, they said most people were able to get out safely.
“Everybody got out pretty quickly,” resident Joe Quirk said.
Crews were seen working to keep the flames from spreading. Still, significant damage was visible on part of the building.
“It’s not good,” Quirk said. “Half the building is going to be damaged, that’s for sure.”
The cause of the fire remained under investigation as of Friday evening.
