Crossroad Academy announce Colin Anderson as next boys basketball head coach

The Scorpions have a new head coach.

Crossroad Academy announced on Sunday Colin Anderson as its new head boys' basketball coach.

Anderson was most recently the head coach at St. John Paull II during the 2020-21 season and has spent time at Gadsden County and Florida High in various coaching roles.

During his time as head coach at JPII, he led the Panthers to a 10-12 record, falling in the 2A District 1 championship to FAMU DRS and making it to the regional finals, losing to Jacksonville Impact Christian Academy.

The 31-year-old has spent the last two years away from coaching, recently having a daughter that he's been spending time with. He felt the opportunity and the timing of the Crossroads role was the right situation to get back to basketball.

"I was inspired to get back, I started to miss making a difference and being more hands-on in the basketball world," Anderson said. "Crossroads presented itself and I jumped at it because it felt like the right opportunity and it's a program on the rise who's always had a rich basketball culture."

With his experience in coaching and playing in the Big Bend, Anderson hopes to promote the growing level of talented players in the area, something he always felt was here but wasn't always recognized.

"I've always felt like there was a lot of talent in Tallahassee, but we didn't always have the platform," Anderson said. "I've seen from the time when I was a player to now how much social media has impacted the opportunities for our kids in this area. I see a lot more kids getting a chance because of social media and a lot more coaches are involved in helping them get seen by different coaches."

Taking on his second head coaching role, Anderson is focused on player development and getting his team ready to play at the next level.

"On the court, we will be fast, physical, and disciplined," Anderson said. "I want these guys to understand that at the next level, you can play fast but you also have to play in the half-court."

He replaces Kenneth Parker as the head coach. Crossroad Academy went 8-11 last season, winning the 2A District 1 title and making it to the regional semifinals round of the state tournament. Anderson said he hopes to build the Scorpins into a title contender.

"I'm big on discipline, I'm big on team and I want all of us to be able to work together," Anderson said. "We have one common goal, and it is to win the championship. The only way to do it is if we're all together."
