For many Florida students, the path to college is shaped by more than academic ability or ambition. Financial barriers can make higher education difficult to pursue, but so can the absence of someone who knows how to navigate the process. At Take Stock in Children, we believe students deserve both the resources and guidance to pursue their goals. Now, thanks to the support of thousands of Floridians, a new specialty license plate will help us continue that work. In September, Take Stock in Children reached the 3,000 pre-sale vouchers required to move our "Mentoring Changes Lives" specialty license plate into production. Once available, $25 from each annual plate fee will support mentoring services for students across Florida, creating a recurring source of funding for programs that help young people prepare for college and beyond. For me, the importance of this milestone is deeply personal. Growing up in a low-income family, I knew college was important, but paying for it was another matter entirely. I relied heavily on Pell Grants to earn my degree and remember wondering whether there would be enough financial support to get me across the finish line. That experience shaped my understanding of the barriers students face
