Man charged with hate crime for spray-painting anti-Asian graffiti at Queens liquor store

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD arrested a 43-year-old man accused of spray painting anti-Asian graffiti at a Queens liquor store last month authorities announced Thursday.

Angel Mario was charged with criminal mischief as a hate crime, making graffiti, aggravated harassment and criminal mischief, officials said.

At approximately 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, the suspect exited the A train at the Far Rockaway - Mott Avenue station in Far Rockaway and walked to the bus stop located at the corner of Mott Avenue and Beach Channel Drive, officials said.

While waiting for the bus, the suspect approached a liquor and wine store located at 21-35 Mott Ave. and spray painted an anti-Asian statement on the front gate.

When the bus arrived at the stop, the suspect boarded and left the location.
