QUEENS, NY – Shakim Allen and Dreshaun Smith, both 29, have been found guilty of murder and other charges related to the shooting of two brothers during a Richmond Hill robbery in January 2017. Allen pointed a gun at 24-year-old Sonny Kalisaran, who attempted to flee.

Kalisaran’s brother, 31-year-old Rocky Kalisaran of Guyana, ran to his aid, but Allen caught up with them and wrestled with Rocky over his gun, which discharged. Dreshaun Smith then drove up to them and fired multiple times, striking both brothers. Rocky died later that day of his injuries.

Allen and Smith were convicted of murder in the second degree, attempted murder in the second degree, assault in the first degree, robbery in the first degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, and tampering with physical evidence.

Allen was also convicted of criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, and Smith was convicted of arson in the third degree.

The defendants face a possible sentence of over 50 years to life in prison, to be decided by Queens Supreme Court Justice Ira Margulis on April 21.

The District Attorney expressed her condolences to the Kalisaran family and hoped that the conviction brings them some closure. She also thanked the FBI Cellular Analysis Survey Team and the Nassau County Police Department for their assistance in the case.
