The northbound lanes of the Pennsylvania Turnpike between the Quakertown and Lehigh Valley exits are open Friday afternoon after a tractor-trailer hit a truck directing traffic from a construction zone.

State police said in a crash report that the tractor-trailer, driven by a 58-year-old Whitehall man, hit a truck that had a mounted directional sign on it which was directing traffic into the left lane. The crash happened about 5:20 a.m. near mile marker 51 in Upper Milford Township

The impact caused significant damage to the truck. The tractor-trailer then continued to into the closed lane, where it hit the rear passenger side of a state trooper vehicle, causing damage to the bumper and axle, according to police.  It then hit a directional sign board before stopping in the right shoulder and catching fire.

The driver of the tractor-trailer and the truck suffered minor injuries. The state trooper inside the vehicle that was hit was not injured.

The road was reopened about 1:30 p.m.
