TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– Indiana State Police around the region issued over a dozen citations and made one arrest with extra patrols out holiday weekend.

According to Sgt. Matt Ames, the ISP Putnamville district made 31 traffic stops, giving out 15 citations in the process. He said the one arrest was in Vermillion County for someone with an outstanding burglary warrant.

Ames also said making no DUI arrests over the holiday and tournament weekend was a relief.

“People are aware we are out there, we’re looking for intoxicated drivers, and people are going out and they are celebrating or enjoying the weekend responsibly and making sure they are getting home safely,” he said.

Troopers did deal with a number of crashes related to snowfall overnight on Friday.

“Our troopers were real busy Saturday morning,” he said. “During that course of time, we were reacting to a lot of slide-offs having four of those, and we had nine property damage accidents and four personal injury accidents, none of those being major incidents.”

The extra patrols will continue through Midnight on Sunday, and return during game days over the course of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

“Patrols will continue to go on as the NCAA tournament goes on because we know people are still getting together, they’re celebrating March Madness, we just want to make sure everyone continues to do that in a very responsible way,” Ames said.
