Local polka legend Alvin Styczynski dead at 87

PULASKI, Wis. (WBAY) - Polka legend Alvin Styczynski has passed away, the Marnocha Funeral Home confirmed Monday.

Styczynski was a well-known polka musician. According to his obituary, he is most well-known for being the band leader and musician for the Alvin Styczynski Polka Band, retiring in 2018 following a 70-year career, beginning in 1948.

Alvin Styczynski and his wife Sherry operated Zielinski’s Ballroom in Pulaski for 19 years. A noted Packers fan, Styczynski is also crediting with writing and and recording the Green Bay Packers Polka.

Styczynski also had a show here with us at WBAY, playing Sunday mornings for 12 years on the Alvin Styczynski Polka Show. He also spent 52 years as a polka D.J. for WTCH Radio in Shawano and for 55 years at WTAQ Radio in Green Bay.

Styczynski also received the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Senior Achievement Award from the Wisconsin Polka Hall of Fame.

He was 87 years old.
