A 68-year-old man was killed Tuesday in a motorcycle wreck in Pueblo County, according to Colorado State Patrol.

The crash occurred on northbound Interstate 25 near milepost 91 south of Pueblo, CSP Master Trooper Gary Cutler said.

Cutler said the driver, who was riding a Harley-Davidson Electra Glide, veered off the roadway onto its shoulder and went down an embankment before he was ejected from the bike.

The road was wet due to a recent storm and the driver — who has not yet been identified by Pueblo County Coroner Brian Cotter — was not wearing a helmet, Cutler said.

CSP said in a news release that troopers believe the crash was caused by distracted driving.

According to the release, the fatal crash was one of 11 that occurred statewide between May 27 and June 1.

Five of the incidents occurred in Jefferson County and two occurred in Weld, with single incidents having taken place in Arapahoe, Garfield, and Kit Carson counties in addition to Tuesday's fatal crash in Pueblo.

The ages of those killed in the wrecks ranged from 10 to 73 years old. The fatalities were both in vehicles and on foot, according to CSP.

One incident involved a driver using excessive speed and two were caused by impaired drivers, according to the state patrol.

“The ability to safely travel within our community or across the state directly impacts the quality of life for all Coloradans,” said CSP Chief Col. Matthew C. Packard. “This isn’t a ‘them’ problem, it is an ‘all of us’ problem. Until every license holder recognizes and acts upon the responsibility they hold, we won’t stop shattering annual death records on our roadways.”

"The range of poor driving behaviors underscores the urgent need for all road users to stay focused on the task of driving and following traffic safety rules and laws," CSP stated in its release. "All of these crashes were completely avoidable."
