(PUEBLO, Colo.) — The Pueblo Zoo recently announced the passing of its 8-year-old red panda, Scout. On Monday, April 22, the Pueblo Zoo posted to its Facebook page writing, “[Scout’s] loss was unexpected, despite the best efforts of our vet staff.”

According to the post, Scout arrived from the Buffalo Zoo in September 2023 as part of the Species Survival Program, “with hopes of being a companion for [the Pueblo Zoo’s] female [red panda], Momo.” Sandy Morrison, Marketing & Communications Manager for the Pueblo Zoo told FOX21 News that Momo will soon turn 3 years old and its other red panda, Rupert, is 12.

As for Scout, he will be remembered for his fun personality.

“Keepers loved training him and could encourage him with his favorites – grapes and apples,” wrote the Pueblo Zoo. “Scout will be dearly missed and we ask that you keep our Keepers and Vet team in your thoughts as they process this loss.”
