8 OCFA firefighters injured as wildfire crew truck crashes on Irvine freeway
Eight Orange County firefighters returning from battling the Airport Fire were injured in a rollover crash on a freeway in Irvine Thursday night.Officials say six firefighters suffered major injuries and two others had minor injuries when the hand-crew truck struck a guard rail and overturned.It apparently was caused by a ladder that was in lanes on the 241 Freeway. Temporary evacuations ordered after methane leak detected in Ventura
A methane leak forced residential evacuations for several hours Thursday in a section of Ventura just blocks from an elementary school and the beach.The exact cause and source of the leak is unclear but firefighters say the odor appears to be coming from the sewer system in the area between Bayshore Avenue and Pierpont Boulevard.It was first reported around 11:30 a.m. Authorities issued a mandatory evacuation order for homes in the immediate vicinity and a voluntary evacuation warning for homes west of Pierpont toward the shoreline.The evacuation order applied to all of Bayshore south of Coral Street. The voluntary warning was for residents along Pierpont between Greenock, Seaward and Harbor.By 6 p.m. the order was lifted. Authorities say there does not appear to be any immediate danger to the neighborhood but the source remained under investigation.Some residents told Eyewitness News they first noticed the odor several days ago after maintenance work was done to a petroleum pipeline running under their homes.

Luxury yacht docked at Marina del Rey sinks after fire; explosions heard on video
A high-end yacht docked at Marina del Rey sank after catching on fire Wednesday night.The fire in Basin A was first reported around 8:30 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Firefighters responded and poured water on the 100-foot vessel from the dock at the end of Bora Bora Way.Witness video captured the sounds of several explosions as firefighters battled the flames.A high-end yacht docked at Marina del Rey sank after catching on fire.But the interior flames appeared to resist the water hoses and the boat continued sustaining damage. It quickly began taking on water from the hoses as the flames, possibly fueled by a gas source, continued to burn.The yacht began listing, and by around 10:30 p.m. firefighters were ordered to evacuate the dock. The boat began slowly overturning onto its side and sinking into the water.There were no major injuries reported. Two people on board exited safely, though one reported a minor cut to the arm.There was no word on how the fire started. Authorities said it's possible ammunition was on board the vessel.The boat is named The Admiral, but the identity of the owner was not immediately available.
