MARION―The Marion City Police Department swiftly responded to a distress call on June 3, 2023, leading to the discovery of a severely injured 28-year-old woman in the 300 block of Silver Street. Preliminary investigations revealed that the assault occurred in Prospect, Ohio, specifically in the 6000 block of Smeltzer Road. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office promptly assumed control of the case. The victim was initially taken to Marion General Hospital for medical treatment and later transferred to Grant Hospital due to the extent of her injuries.

Following meticulous investigative efforts by the detectives from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, a suspect has been identified and subsequently arrested.

The individual in custody has been identified as 34-year-old Shane Hooper, a resident of Marion, Ohio. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office has formally charged Hooper with Strangulation and Kidnapping in connection with the assault. Additional charges are anticipated as the investigation progresses. Hooper appeared before court yesterday for arraignment, during which a bond of $1,000,000 was set. He is currently being held at the Marion-Hardin Multi-County Jail.
