Barcelona Transfer Rumors: Man City Star Willing To Join LaLiga Giants as a Free Agent in the Summer
By Sripad,
2026-01-26Barcelona is looking to sign players this summer, but the club is still not in a financial position to spend heavily. As a result, it is now eyeing a move for a Manchester City star on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Manchester City Star Wants To Join Barcelona
Barcelona has been pursuing Bernardo Silva for years and now appears to have its best chance to sign him. The Portuguese star is out of contract this summer and is open to taking the next step in his career.
According to SPORT, Silva has decided to join the Catalan side this summer. He has offers from MLS and the Saudi Pro League, but the Manchester City star is keen to continue playing at the top level in Europe for a few more seasons.
His agent, Jorge Mendes, has been in talks with Barcelona. The report surfaced just hours after Pep Guardiola said he hopes Silva remains at the Etihad for the rest of his career. He said:
“I would love for Man City, for myself as well, [that] Bernardo is going to stay forever. But so we spoke a lot with Bernie and Bernie has to decide the best for him and his family. And whatever happens this season, next season, in 10 years, he will remain one of the greatest players that this club has had in its long history.”
“I sleep better before when I decide to play Bernardo in the team, I go to bed and sleep better. I have to take care of my health and absolutely, he’s another type. He’s a competitor. He has fire in his eyes still. He never finds excuses. Never. And that’s why he is a special, special player, how he competes in every single game.”

Barcelona is likely to part ways with one of Fermín López or Dani Olmo this summer, as they occupy the same position as Silva. The 22-year-old López was a target for Chelsea last summer, but the Blues could not agree on a deal with the Catalan side.
Chicago Fire were also pushing to sign Silva at the end of the 2025/26 season, with the Daily Mail reporting that the MLS side was offering him a three-year deal worth $12 million per season in wages.
Silva spoke about his future earlier this season, saying he had already made up his mind about a summer move but did not plan to disclose it because he wanted to focus on Manchester City.
