Packers' RB depth takes another hit
Packers running back Josh Jacobs has been extremely impactful on his new team so far this season, despite not having reached the end zone yet. He had 104 total yards in Week 1 followed by a 151-yard rushing performance this weekend, which shows that Green Bay seems to have hit on the free-agent market at running back. Jacobs can’t rush 32 times a game like he did last week, though, making depth at running back crucial. That depth took a hit Tuesday when rookie third-round pick MarShawn Lloyd was placed on injured reserve, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Latest update suggests Bills might be changing their turn on veteran kicker
Bills kicker Tyler Bass was signed to an extension a year-and-a-half ago, but Buffalo may be having a bit of buyer’s remorse. Some recent inaccuracies have made many question his standing as the Bills kicker of the future, but they have claimed that they don’t have any intention to replace him. That tune may be changing, as Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports that the Bills worked out kickers Anders Carlson and Cade York on Tuesday.
Steelers 'readying a plan' featuring Justin Fields for Week 3
Another Justin Fields start is likely on tap for the Steelers, who are 2-0 with the fourth-year passer at the controls. Russell Wilson is not scheduled to log a full practice Wednesday, and Mike Tomlin said (via ESPN.com’s Brooke Pryor) the team is “readying a plan that features Justin.”
Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa placed on IR with latest concussion
Tua Tagovailoa is not planning to consider retirement, but the Dolphins are planning to give their starting quarterback plenty of time to recover from the latest concussion he suffered. Miami is placing Tagovailoa on IR, NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo report. With Miami’s bye occurring during this window, the earliest the fifth-year QB can return will be Week 8. This is not especially surprising, but it does represent a change from how the Dolphins handled their quarterback during his concussion-marred 2022 season.
Giants add K Greg Joseph from Lions' practice squad
With Gano set to miss at least four games, New York worked out four kickers. The team, however, will take another course. The Giants are signing Greg Joseph off the Lions’ practice squad, per his agency. The team must keep Joseph on its 53-man roster for at least three...
Colts place key defensive lineman on IR after ankle injury
This marks a change of pace for the durable defensive tackle, who entered this season having missed all of two games since his 2016 rookie season. A Monday report from NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport indicated Buckner suffered a sprained ankle that was not considered serious, and while the Pro Bowler’s season is not in jeopardy, he is out for at least four games.
Chiefs sign familiar face to practice squad
Although the Chiefs’ first partnership with Kareem Hunt ended badly, the former rushing champion resurfaced on Kansas City’s radar in light of Isiah Pacheco‘s injury. Now the team has made the reunion official, signing Hunt to a practice squad deal, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Both Pacheco...
Are Giants HC Brian Daboll, GM Joe Schoen on hot seat?
Co-owner John Mara made it clear in advance of the season that a playoff berth was not mandatory for the campaign to be considered a success. He did say, however, that a “big step forward” was expected compared to last year’s 6-11 showing. Things have not gone according to plan so far, with a lopsided loss to the Vikings being followed by a Commanders defeat during which the Giants scored the game’s only three touchdowns.
Panthers QB Bryce Young did not anticipate benching
Young was caught off guard by head coach Dave Canales‘ decision to insert Dalton into the lineup, ESPN’s David Newton reports. The 23-year-old started all but one game (due to injury) during his rookie campaign, one in which he and Carolina’s offense struggled immensely. A step forward with Canales in the fold, along with new investments up front and at the skill positions, was expected for 2024.
49ers WR Deebo Samuel is expected to miss several weeks
The 49ers are down another offensive star. Receiver Deebo Samuel suffered a calf strain Sunday that will sideline him for several weeks, per ESPN’s Nick Wagoner. According to 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan, Samuel believes he suffered his injury late in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss. The 49ers only played a handful of additional offensive snaps before the game ended. It doesn’t sound like Samuel will require an IR stint, but Shanahan also hinted that this will be more than a one-game absence.
Eagles WR A.J. Brown expects to miss games due to hamstring injury
Brown told ESPN’s Lisa Salters that he expects to miss a couple of weeks while dealing with his hamstring issue (per ESPN’s Adam Schefter). The receiver clarified that the injury isn’t “too serious,” and it sounds like Brown isn’t expecting an IR stint. The...
Patriots' defensive captain out for season
The former fifth-round pick has turned into one of New England’s most dependable defenders, topping 100 tackles in each of the past three seasons. Bentley has also shown some pass rush ability in recent years, collecting a combined 7.5 sacks between the 2022 and 2023 campaigns. Bentley started each...
Falcons place LB Nate Landman on IR
The Falcons got some bad news ahead of Monday night's showdown with the Eagles. The team announced that linebacker Nate Landman has been placed on injured reserve. The team also announced that it signed cornerback Kevin King to the active roster and elevated safety Dane Cruikshank from the practice squad.
Rams' Cooper Kupp is candidate for IR
The injury issues keep piling up for the Rams. Days after placing wideout Puka Nacua on injured reserve, head coach Sean McVay revealed that fellow star receiver Cooper Kupp will also miss “an extended period of time” (per ESPN’s Sarah Barshop). Kupp missed the second half of...
Ravens to reunite with veteran DL
Wormley began his career in Baltimore in 2017. He spent his first three seasons with the team, making 39 appearances and 15 starts during that span. The former third-rounder’s playing time increased with each passing campaign, but ahead of the final year of his rookie contract, he was traded to the Steelers.
Chiefs to host former Pro Bowl RB
Kareem Hunt is set to visit the team on Tuesday, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports. That news comes after head coach Andy Reid noted (via Nate Taylor of The Athletic) that general manager Brett Veach would at least explore the free-agent market. Hunt has been available since his final Browns contract expired, and he has not been linked to any suitors until Monday.
Broncos offense takes hit as RT suffers MCL sprain
Garafolo notes the sprain is “significant,” and McGlinchey thus appears to be set to miss roughly one month. Further testing will be needed to determine an exact recovery timeline. Nonetheless, his absence will deal a blow to a Denver offense which has struggled on offense in general and on the ground in particular.
Browns third-year WR to undergo season-ending hip surgery
The 23-year-old was carted off the field during the third quarter of Cleveland’s win on Sunday. A notable absence was thus in the cards, but Monday's news means Bell’s attention will turn to rehab ahead of the 2025 campaign. Already on the roster bubble for that year, as demonstrated by his time on and off the practice squad in 2024, this is a notable setback for him.
Panthers make decision on starting QB for Week 3
Carolina will in fact go with Andy Dalton in Week 3, Tom Pelissero reports. The veteran made one start last season while Young was injured, and he will now take charge of an offense desperately in need of improvement. Dating back to end of the 2023 campaign, the Panthers have scored just 13 points in their past four games. This decision was driven by Canales along with general manager Dan Morgan and EVP Brandt Tillis, ESPN’s Adam Schefter adds.
Giants kicker Graham Gano facing multi-week absence
When speaking to the media on Monday, head coach Brian Daboll said Gano will be sidelined for “a few weeks” (h/t ESPN’s Jordan Raanan). Daboll added the team will host free-agent workouts to evaluate options, while Jude McAtamney is currently in place on the practice squad. This marks the second consecutive season in which Gano has suffered an injury that requires a multi-week absence.
