PRINCETON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One man has been arrested after attempting to rob a house with a baseball bat and a fake handgun.
On March 17th, 2023 at approximately 10:47 PM, Princeton Police received a call of a home invasion on Harrison Street with a male armed with a baseball bat and a fake handgun.
While officers were en route to the residence the caller advised Mercer County 911 that the suspect was Shane Tackett and had been thrown out of the house before fleeing in a green jeep. Officers were able to locate the vehicle traveling west on New Hope Road turning into Quail Valley Estates.
Patrolman Z. Jones executed a felony traffic stop to detain the suspect who was then identified to be Shane Tackett. Statements were acquired from the victim and other witnesses from Harrison Street. One of the victims stated that he had gone out to his vehicle and was approached by Tackett armed with weapons.
It was at this time Tackett threatened to hit one of the dogs at the residence with a bat and began to force his way into the home armed with what he believed to be a real gun at the time.
Another victim at the residence stated that after the confrontation began he observed Tackett with a bat and he began pointing it at the victim’s face. Tackett then pushed the victim to enter the home before the victims had to physically remove him from the residence.
After the struggle, the suspect left behind an aluminum baseball bat and a plastic handgun that was collected as evidence.
Tackett was arrested and charged with burglary. He is currently out on bond.
