City commission approves new training facility for FSFD
The Fort Scott Fire Department will get its own training facility after approval Tuesday by the Fort Scott City Commission. After a presentation by Fort Scott Deputy Fire Chief Mike Miles, commissioners discussed specifics of the proposed facility with Miles and Fort Scott Fire Chief Dave Bruner. Commissioners also heard concerns from residents on the proposed site for the facility, which would be on an unused open plot of land at 17th and Judson streets, southwest of the Hawkins Public Safety Facility.

There is a possibility of severe weather this evening and the community should be aware and planning in case of emergency. “Everyone needs to keep informed about the possible severe weather either by TV, phone, or internet,” Bourbon County Emergency Management Director Brian Allen said. “There are storm shelters in Bronson, Uniontown, Mapleton, and Garland. They are opened by someone in their community. If a town has storm sirens, they are also responsible for activating them.”
