Believe it or not, but Arizona logged its first snowfall of the season on August 31, 2024. The state's largest ski resort, Arizona Snowbowl , took to social media to celebrate the occasion with a video of the accumulated flakes. See below.

Internet commenters are wondering if the precipitation is the product of a summer hail storm rather than snow, but others could seem to care less. In fact, multiple users called out that the high temperature in Phoenix was over 110 degrees Fahrenheit on August 31st. The sight of any form of frozen precipitation was surely cause for celebration for these folks.

Snowbowl joins an exclusive list of ski resorts in Lake Tahoe , Canada , Wyoming , and Montana to have logged their first snowfalls of the season in August. It's an extremely rare occasion, and one that many skiers are hoping bodes will for the upcoming season.

Arizona Snowbowl used the occasion to remind skiers that the season is just around the corner. Barring adverse conditions from Mother Nature, Arizona Snowbowl will open for the season on Friday, November 22, 2024.

Snow? Sleet? Graupel? Hail? Who cares? Winter is coming for Arizona Snowbowl.

Snowbowl is coming off a banner ski season that ended on June 1, 2024, the latest closing date in the resort's history. It was the first time chairlifts have ever been open for skiing in June amongst any of Arizona's handful of ski resorts.

The resort will debut the replacement for its beginner-friendly 'Aspen' chairlift during the Winter '24/'25 season. The new lift is a fixed-grip quad chairlift from SkyTrac that will reduce ride times and serve brand-new beginner and intermediate terrain.
