We covered the release of The Farmers' Almanac Winter '24/'25 forecast last week, and today, August 22, 2024, we're covering the bold predictions from The Old Farmer's Almanac.

The publication is available to purchase, but has released a special report on Winter 2025 that's focused on a “Calmer, Gentler” Winter for the United States.

The Old Farmer's Almanac has been adding pieces to this map on a daily basis. We'll continue to this update this articles as more pieces are released. Last updated: August 22, 2024.

Carol Connare, the Almanac’s editor, chimed in via press release on the slightly vague yet intriguing prediction. She gives a special call out that should perk the ears of powder hungry skiers, “This winter, temperatures will be up and snowfall down throughout most parts of the United States,” she says. “While there will still be plenty of winter chill out there and powdery snow to enjoy, the high costs associated with the season shouldn’t hit so hard. It will be, by and large, a very temperate, uneventful winter and potentially a welcome reprieve from the extremes of recent years.”

Contradicting recent La Niña predictions from NOAA , The Old Farmer's Almanac is predicting southern California will be "sopped and soaked" from rainstorms throughout the winter. They're calling for the same weather in the deep south and Florida.

The Old Farmer's Almanac gives a blunt call-out to skiers that should excite folks in the Midwest, and those planning on traveling to the Rockies this season: "Meanwhile, heavy snowfall is expected in central and southern Appalachia, the western Ohio Valley, and the Rockies—welcome news for skiers!"

The press release wraps up with a focus on Western Washington, an area of interest in most La Niña forecasts , "Western Washington will buck the overall forecast trend with a season of shivers and a series of snowstorms starting around New Year’s Eve and more or less continuing through Valentine’s Day!". We'll keep an eye out for this hopeful weather pattern as the time approaches. Here's hoping it comes to fruition!
