Post Falls police investigating suspected home invasion that left teen, male suspect injured

The man, who police did not identify by name, is currently in the hospital with serious injuries. The teen's injuries are non-life-threatening.

POST FALLS, Idaho — The Post Falls Police Department (PFPD) is investigating a suspected home invasion that resulted in the shooting of a teenage boy and a 49-year-old man.

According to the police, it is believed that the resident of a home in Post Falls shot the 49-year-old man and the 15-year-old boy during what appeared to be a home invasion on Monday night. The man, whose identity has not been disclosed by the police, is currently hospitalized with serious injuries, while the teen's injuries are non-life-threatening.

On Monday at approximately 8:35 p.m., police responded to a shooting report at a residence on West 13th Avenue in Post Falls. Upon arrival, officers discovered the man with bullet wounds in his chest and leg, and the 15-year-old with a bullet wound in his leg.

Cpt. Mark Brantl confirmed to KREM 2 that the 15-year-old is the son of the homeowner. There was a big fight in the home, which the teen got involved in and was likely accidentally shot, according to Brantl.

Both individuals were transported to Kootenai Health for medical treatment. The teen's injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening, and he has since been discharged. The man, however, remains in the hospital with serious injuries, and his current condition is unknown.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the person who shot the two individuals and made the 911 call was the resident of the home. The resident cooperated with the authorities when they arrived at the scene, as confirmed by the PFPD.

While investigators have determined that the incident may have been a home invasion, and even with the 49-year-old man and the resident at the home not knowing each other, police do not believe it was a random act and assure there is no threat to the community.

The police are actively continuing their investigation into the incident and will provide additional information as it becomes available.
