Former Portsmouth Police Chief Renado Prince hired as assistant chief

Prince was fired by then-City Manager Tonya Chapman in July 2022, just months after he took his job in September 2021.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Nearly a year after his ouster, former Portsmouth Police Chief Renado Prince was hired as assistant police chief for the city, sources close to 13News Now confirmed.

He will begin his new role Monday, serving under his successor Stephen Jenkins.

Prince was fired by then-City Manager Tonya Chapman in July 2022, less than a week into her role and just months after he took his job in September 2021. In an exclusive interview with 13News Now, Prince said his termination came after a text message in which he was critical of Chapman.
