Portsmouth 400th parade, Chowder Fest, Air Supply: Things to do on Seacoast this weekend

June is officially here and this weekend offers everything you would expect with summer drawing near. The Portsmouth 400th grand parade, the Piscataqua River Fest, the much-anticipated WOKQ Chowder Festival, along with a craft fair, and variety of music to suit any taste are on the schedule. This includes the classic tunes of Air Supply.

Umphrey’s McGee at the Casino Ballroom

Umphrey’s McGee will perform at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom on Friday, June 2, 2023.

What: In the 25 years since eclectic improv-rock band Umphrey’s McGee formed, its sound has been an amalgamation of genres, moods, and tempos.

Portsmouth 400th anniversary grand parade

The Portsmouth NH 400th Grand Parade is happening on Saturday, June 3, 2023.

What: The Portsmouth 400th anniversary grand parade, the first major public event of the anniversary summer, is one of three signature events celebrating the quadricentennial.

When: Saturday, June 3 at 11 a.m.

Where: The parade route will go from Plaza 800, down Islington Street to Market Square, turning right on Pleasant Street and ending on Junkins Avenue.

Piscataqua Riverfest

What: The Piscataqua Riverfest is Portsmouth’s annual all-ages celebration of the rivers and bays. Come for the traditional boat show, food, music, demonstrations and vendors.

WOKQ Chowder Festival at Prescott Park

What: Join in the fun of the Chowder Festival with some of your favorite local restaurants serving-up mouthwatering chowder in Prescott Park, and vote for your favorite to win the coveted People’s Choice Award and take home the Golden Ladle.

YMCA of Strafford County’s Healthy Kids Day

What: This free, annual event will be featuring all sorts of family-friendly activities to encourage healthy kids, healthy families, and a healthy start to the summer season.  Activities include a Mad Science interactive table about optical illusions from noon to 1 p.m., our ukulele group will be playing with an option to play along on KaZoos, swim in the pool, touch-a-truck, child ID, games, activities, and more.

Seven Sisters Planting Workshop

Seven Sisters Planting Workshop will be held on Sunday, June 4, 2023.

What: The Three Sisters are the main agricultural crops of various Native American groups in North America: squash, corn and beans. Come learn about the seven sisters (and one brother) of Abenaki Indigenous agriculture followed by a hands-on planting.

When: Sunday, June 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
