On Monday the Lan Su Chinese Garden welcomed a Taiwanese dragon boat into its resident lake ahead of the garden's Nights of the Dragon Boat celebration.
The 40-foot-long, 1,300 lb. dragon boat was lifted into Lake Zither by a crane shortly after 7 a.m. as spectators and press watched.
The boat is part of the display for our Lan Su's Dragon Boat Festival celebrations, and was made possible through a loan from the Portland Kaohsiung Sister City Association and sponsorship by Hoffman Construction Company.
"The dragon boat, symbolizing tradition, strength, and community spirit will find its new home at Lan Su Chinese Garden for the duration of June," stated the garden in a press release.
This unique cultural display showcases the shared heritage between Portland and Kaohsiung, fostering a deep sense of cultural exchange and appreciation.
Nights of the Dragon Boat will take place from June 15th to 25th. During the festivities, visitors can witness "... the magnificent dragon boat, traditional dragon dance, local vendors, a community dragon art activity, and the debut of a stunning 6-ft tall lantern from China."
More information on the Nights of the Dragon Boat and tickets can be found on Lan Su's WEBSITE.
