After almost 16 years, Exiled Records is shuttering its location at Southeast Hawthorne and 47th Avenue.
They say it’s because of multiple break-ins and a decline in foot traffic at that location.
Security video of their most recent incident just 11 days ago shows a man experiencing a mental health crisis. He smashed their windows with a skateboard.
It came after three previous incidents of break-ins and vandalism over the last year and a half.
The owner, Brian Snawder, said Portland police didn’t respond to any of the calls from their alarm company.
"It was finally after the third break-in, I had just said, ‘If this happens again, I can't do it anymore,’" Snawder said. "I can't go to bed at night wondering what time the alarm company is going to call and what point Portland Police won't respond to the alarm calls because they are busy dealing with other things in the city."
They are moving the Southeast store inventory to their westside location at Southwest Canyon Road and 87th Avenue.
They have recently added square footage to accommodate the additional inventory as well as space for live events.
KATU has reached out to Portland police about the break-ins at the Southeast location and is waiting to hear back.
