At 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, crews from Portland Fire and Rescue were dispatched to a warehouse on Northwest Industrial Way. Multiple callers to 911 reported black smoke coming out of the windows.
The first arriving crews had issues gaining access to the building by an 8’ high razor wire fence.
Crews were able to enter the building by opening the large roll-up doors on the address side of the building.
Once inside, firefighters found a fire in a large exterior hopper.
The fire was extinguished as other firefighters opened additional doors and began to ventilate the smoke out of the building.
Officials say a company representative arrived at the scene and told firefighters that this was a known situation, but had never happened when employees were out of the building.
The company representative and firefighters conducted a thorough investigation and determined no further emergency was present. No injuries were reported.
Portland Fire says nearly 60 firefighters were on the scene to battle the blaze.
