Portland reached nearly 80 degrees on Memorial Day under mostly sunny skies.

Residents should expect cooler temperatures beginning Tuesday and lasting until at least Thursday as the area will be under the influence of an upper level trough.

Portland will start Tuesday with a mix of clouds and sun, then gradually clear to sunny skies. The high will be about 72 degrees.

The modest cooling trend continues on Wednesday as more marine clouds will move into the metro area. Much of the valley will see a mix of clouds and sun. Temperatures will dip into the 60s. Portland’s high is expected to reach 68 degrees, a few degrees below average for the last day of May.

Other than the Oregon beaches where there may be some sprinkles, the bulk of western Oregon should remain dry through the work week and well into the weekend. Thursday promises a mostly sunny day with high temperatures rebounding back into the low 70s.

Extended forecasts are currently seeing a strong chance that temperatures will climb back into the 80s by the weekend. There’s even a 30% or so chance some areas will see temperatures reaching toward 90 at some point before next Monday.
