Portland firefighters doused a huge pile of rubber pellets Monday morning to extinguish the second blaze at the site in a week.
Crews responded just before 8 a.m. to a commercial fire alarm near the Steel Bridge, in front of a vacant grain silo where a mound of rubber pellets first caught fire Thursday morning.
Firefighters returned to the east side of the bridge Monday, streaming water on the pile and looking for hotspots buried within.
Across the region, an overnight blaze in Beaverton displaced nine people from a home in the 11000 block of Southwest Timberline Drive. Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue determined the fire, which began in the garage, was accidental.
Portland Fire & Rescue also responded to a residential fire Monday morning caused by a barbecue grill. The Concordia homeowner extinguished the fire.
“Please use caution when firing up your grill on the traditional BBQ day,” the fire department said on Twitter.
