Neighbors along East Burnside Street say something is being done after pleading with the City of Portland to handle an abandoned home taken over by squatters.
It’s been two weeks since KATU aired a story about the abandoned home. Neighbors Elizabeth and Jacob Adams told us about the fires that had been set, flames spreading to their fence, and the constant turmoil.
KATU contacted the city, asking why this was allowed to continue. A few days later, the owners put up a fence around the property. They say it appears to be keeping squatters away from the home.
Jacob Adams told us he couldn't be happier.
It’s really organized the community - I have neighbors stopping by, people that drive by, saying 'we saw you on the news, we're so sorry.'
"One of the good things-- I always try to look at the silver lining in all things that are traumatic ... I really feel a better sense of what it was like when I was a kid in Portland, where you knew your neighbors, and now we're all so fractured because of the city we live in. So I feel a humongous resurgence into the lifeblood of what this awesome city could be," Jacob Adams said.
KATU will keep you posted on what happens next with that home on East Burnside.
