A driver in a stolen vehicle crashed head-on with someone while driving the wrong way on I-405 Tuesday night, leaving several people injured, the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office said.
Both the suspect behind the wheel, later identified as 30-year-old Kyle Christopher Voltz, and his passenger were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The other driver involved in the head-on crash suffered moderate injuries. A child riding in a third vehicle that couldn’t avoid colliding with the first two was also taken to the hospital for an evaluation.

The incident started when Transit Police Division deputies stopped what they thought was a stolen SUV in a parking lot near North Lombard Transit Center.
Voltz allegedly put the SUV in reverse and rammed the front of the Transit Police vehicle when the deputies were preparing to get out of the car. The deputies were unhurt in the crash.
“The suspect then drove away, hitting an uninvolved vehicle as it exited the parking lot,” MCSO officials said.
The deputies called off the pursuit when they lost sight of the SUV, which had turned onto I-5 southbound.

About six minutes later, reports came in for someone driving the wrong way on I-405 northbound. They say Voltz ultimately crashed head-on with another car north of the Glisan Street overpass.
Once released from the hospital, Voltz will be booked into the Multnomah County Jail on several charges, including first-degree assault, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, felony elude, felony hit-and-run, and reckless driving.
