Firefighters were first called to help free the child from the grate, carefully cutting around the baby’s finger. The baby was then taken to the ER.
“After a short period, the emergency room staff realized they did not have the proper tools to free the finger, so they called our technical rescue team,” Portland Fire & Rescue said.
The technical rescue crew used specialized equipment to cut away the rest of the grate.
Within seconds of being free, the child stopped crying and happily interacted with the crew.
