Two of the three victims in Saturday’s deadly daylight shooting were high school students, according to statements from Portland Public Schools.

They were identified as Eskender Tamra, 17, a junior at Franklin High School, and Babu Daudi, 19, a senior at Roosevelt High School who went by the first name Isaac.

In emails to school families, officials described both students as “quiet, reserved, and respectful.”

Portland police later Tuesday identified the third shooting victim as Patrick D. Johnson Jr., 20.

Police responded to reports of heavy gunfire at 12:23 p.m. Saturday, finding three people shot inside a light-colored sedan on North Foss Avenue near North Foss Court.

Doorbell video footage shared with The Oregonian/OregonLive shows three people on foot who appear to fire repeatedly on a light-colored sedan, in what has become Portland’s deadliest shooting of 2023 so far. The footage recorded the sound of about three dozen shots.

The video footage shows three people walking on the sidewalk along Foss Avenue with their hands in their pockets in broad daylight as one car passes. Then they pull out guns and begin firing when a second car, the light-colored sedan, comes into the frame. Their faces are obscured by the hoods of their sweatshirts.

They run after the car and continue firing, and the sedan crashes into a parked SUV and spins to a stop as the three people appear to continue to fire. The sedan rolls backward out of the frame and the footage doesn’t capture where the three shooters go. It’s unclear whether anyone inside the car fired back.

Hours after the shooting on Saturday, a light-colored Kia sedan and a Jeep with front-end damage still sat in the road, cordoned off by red police tape.

As of Tuesday, police have announced no arrests.

The killings were the 15th, 16th and 17th suspected homicides in Portland so far in 2023. As of this time last year, Portland had recorded 24 homicides on its way to a record of 101 in 2022.

People brought flowers, balloons and a cross made from branches to create a makeshift memorial at the base of a tree on North Foss Avenue, accompanied by lit candles and a framed photo of a young person.

“Forever in our hearts,” writing around the photo reads. “We love you.”

On Sunday, a makeshift memorial of flowers, balloons and a cross made out of sticks decorated the base of a tree on North Foss Avenue. Debris from the crash still littered the road.
