Trio of Portland Thorns players called up to USWNT for April FIFA window

Portland Thorns midfielder Crystal Dunn passes the ball during the home opening match against Orlando Pride at Providence Park on Sunday, March 26, 2023.

Three players from the Portland Thorns will spend just over a week with the U.S. women’s national team in early April.

Crystal Dunn, Becky Sauerbrunn and Sophia Smith were all called up to USWNT for two friendly matches against Ireland on April 8 and 11. They will be with the U.S. squad from April 3-11 and will not miss any Thorns matches.

Dunn (130 caps) and Sauerbrunn (214 caps) were part of the SheBelieves Cup roster in February while Smith (27 caps) was out for that tournament due to injury. Smith’s last appearance for the U.S. was in a 2-1 win over Germany on Nov. 13, when she scored the game-tying goal.

The U.S. and Ireland first play at 11:30 a.m. PT April 8 at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas, with live broadcasts available on TNT, Universo and Peacock. The second match is at 4:30 p.m. PT April 11 at CITYPARK in St. Louis, Mo., with live streams on HBO Max, Universo and Peacock.

The Thorns’ next match is on the road at the Kansas City Current. Kickoff is scheduled for 9:50 a.m. PT on Saturday with a live broadcast on CBS.
