The dog, a Labrador named Tess, had fallen into a hole reported to be about 23' deep shortly after 10 a.m.
PF&R responded to the scene, classified as a confined space rescue, for a full rope rescue of the pup.
A KATU photojournalist at the scene learned that Tess had wanted to say "hi" to some city workers working on a manhole and didn't notice the uncovered hole, tumbling down into it. She was luckily unharmed by the fall.
At 10:54 a.m. the agency confirmed that Tess had been safely rescued from the pit and reunited with her owners.
