University of Portland is inviting women’s basketball fans to join the team Sunday for a watch party when the NCAA Tournament bracket is unveiled.

The Pilots are headed to the NCAAs for the first time since 1997 after winning the West Coast Conference championship earlier this week.

Portland players and coaches will join interested fans at Pilot House on UP’s campus for the watch party beginning at 4 p.m. The tournament bracket is scheduled to be announced shortly after 5 p.m. The Pilots find out their tournament seed, first-round matchup and game site.

The event is free, and complimentary appetizers and refreshments will be provided.

Portland won the WCC tournament in 2020 to earn an NCAA berth, but the tournament was cancelled due to the pandemic.

The Pilots (23-8) make their fifth all-time NCAA tournament appearance. Portland played in four consecutive NCAAs from 1994-97, each time losing a first-round game.

ESPN’s Bracketology has Portland as a 12-seed, and playing in the Austin, Tex. sub-regional.

The first two rounds are played at the homes of the top 16 seeded teams. First-round games are scheduled for Friday-Saturday, March 17-18. Winners of second-round games advance to regionals in Seattle and Greenville, S.C.
