PORTLAND (WGME) -- The Riverside Street Homeless Services Center grand opening will be held Wednesday in Portland. The public will be able to see what the new space has to offer for the first time.
They broke ground on the center back in 2021. The 208-bed facility will offer 24/7 services for clients. There is a health clinic as well as shuttle services for people to navigate the city.
Portland DHHS Director Kristen Dow also says the space opens new doors for new services the city has wanted to tap into.
However, some who live in the area are worried about potential safety concerns.
“We have a management plan when we went to the board which really outlines the operations of the shelter and I will walk people through that. I’m happy to answer any questions that anyone in the community has about this facility,” Dow said.
Dow says there is a community rep, neighbor rep, and business rep on the board.
