Upon arrival, authorities heard a baby crying and when they looked through a sliding door, they found Amanda Hicks, 26, and an unidentified man lying dead on the floor.

The cops were able to force their way through the locked front door and get Amanda's 10-month-old baby out, unharmed.

Port St. Lucie Police Department said it appears that the two adults were in a romantic relationship.

The man killed the woman and then took his own life, police said.

Neighbors told CBS12 that they only moved into the apartment three weeks ago.

“They seemed very normal, very normal,” said one neighbor.

“We didn’t even get time to even get to know them because everything happened so fast,” a neighbor said. “My hearts out for the family, though. Hopefully, they find peace in all of this.”

Amanda was a sixth-grade teacher at Anderson Middle School in Port St. Lucie.

The principal of the school, Dacia Borel, confirmed Amanda's death, however, she has not been identified as the deceased woman by police.

"While words will never be enough to convey the shock and sadness this news has brought to our school family, it is more important than ever to come together to support one another through our grief journey," Borel wrote in an email obtained by the Daily Mail.

The principal added: "Please remember to hug your loved ones a little tighter and keep Amanda's family in your thoughts and hearts."

A memorial fund was started for Amanda's celebration of life and to support her family.

"She was an amazing mother to a beautiful baby girl, she was a great sister, and was a beloved teacher and friend," the fundraising post read.

"She will be deeply missed and didn’t deserve to leave this world so soon by someone else’s hand."

Amanda's friend of five years, Raquel Magallon told WPBF that "she just lit up the room."

Raquel said that Amanda "had such a big, beautiful smile. She was always happy and always energetic."

"I know she’s at peace now, but I pray that she didn’t suffer because she definitely doesn’t deserve to go out like that," she added.

It's unclear how Amanda and the man died at this time.

The baby is currently with relatives, according to the Port St. Lucie Police Department.
