Two teens arrested, charged with stealing $11,000 worth of merchandise from Clover Park
SAYS HE DID IT. ARI. YEAH, THE TWO SUSPECTS HERE ARE 17 AND 15 YEARS OLD. SO BECAUSE OF THEIR AGE, WE’RE NOT GOING TO RELEASE THEIR NAMES. ACCORDING TO INVESTIGATORS, THOUGH, THE TWO TEENS BROKE INTO CLOVER PARK LOOKING FOR FOOD. THEY SAY STEALING MERCHANDISE WAS JUST AN AFTERTHOUGHT. CLOVER PARK SPRING TRAINING, HOME OF THE NEW YORK METS FULL TIME HOME OF THE SAINT LUCIE METS. AND NOW ALSO A CRIME SCENE. THE SAINT LUCIE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE RELEASED THIS PHOTO. INVESTIGATORS SAY THIS IS JUST A PORTION OF WHAT, TWO TEENAGERS ARE ACCUSED OF STEALING FROM THE PARK EARLY SATURDAY MORNING. ACCORDING TO THE INCIDENT REPORT, AN EMPLOYEE ARRIVED AT THE PARK AROUND 7 A.M. AND, QUOTE, NOTICED THE GLASS ON THE DOOR OF THE ENTRANCE COMPLETELY SHATTERED AND BROKEN, AS IF SOMEBODY USED A BLUNT OBJECT TO BREAK IN. DETECTIVES CHECKED SECURITY VIDEO, WHICH THEY SAY SHOWS JUST AFTER 2 A.M., A YOUNG MAN USED A BASEBALL BAT TO BREAK THE WINDOW. THEY SAY HE WAS WITH A YOUNG WOMAN. THE REPORT SAYS THE TWO WERE INSIDE FOR NEARLY 3 HOURS. DIDN’T LEAVE UNTIL ALMOST 5 A.M. AND WHEN THEY DID GO, THEY WERE WEARING BRAND NEW OUTFITS, SHIRTS, PANTS, A HAT, SHORTS. IN FACT, THE REPORT LISTS WHAT WAS TAKEN. AND IT’S A LONG LIST. ASIDE FROM JUST THE METS PARAPHERNALIA, THE SUSPECTS ARE ALSO ACCUSED OF TAKING WATCHES, WALLETS, JEWELRY AND TWO METS BAGS TO CARRY EVERYTHING. DETECTIVES WERE ABLE TO TRACE STOLEN AIRPODS TO A HOME IN PORT SAINT LUCIE. THEY SAY THAT’S WHERE THEY FOUND A 15 YEAR OLD GIRL AND A 17 YEAR OLD BOY. THE BOY CONFESSED TO EVERYTHING SAYING THE GIRL WAS HUNGRY. SO HE DECIDED TO BURGLARIZE THE METS TRAINING COMPLEX TO GET FOOD FOR BOTH OF THEM WHILE INSIDE. THE TEENS WENT ON A SHOPPING SPREE. THE REPORT SAYS THEY TOOK MERCHANDISE WORTH MORE THAN $11,000. BOTH TEAMS ARE NOW IN POLICE CUSTODY AND THOSE TWO TEENS WERE SENT TO A JUVENILE DETENTION CENTER.
